Classification: Patrol Officer
The Pepper Pike Police Department is currently establishing an ongoing list for Patrol Officer. All candidates (Entry Level and Lateral) must take the FrontLine National exam through National Testing Network prior to May 14, 2025.
The department requires the candidate to complete the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA). You can access these questionnaires through your candidate account. NTN suggests completing the PHQ and PSSA as soon as possible so there is not a delay in your process.
Salary Information:
First Year: $77,891
After 1 Year: $82,914
After 2 Years: $88,232
After 3 Years: $93,937
Lateral Officers with at Least 3 Years Police Experience:
Starting Pay: $93,937
Can transfer up to 200 hours of sick leave.
Officers with 5 or more years of experience begin with 40 hours of vacation time, and after 1 year of employment will be credited with 120 hours of vacation time.

Department Overview: The Pepper Pike Police Department is a group of dedicated and service-driven officers, who strive to protect and serve the community through the unbiased enforcement of law. Area Information: Pepper Pike is located in Cuyahoga County, conveniently accessible to the Cleveland area, only 12 miles east of downtown Cleveland. Pepper Pike comprises 7.5 square miles of mostly residential neighborhoods, with a small shopping area, two Country Clubs, Ursuline College, Orange High School, and several places of worship.

Job Requirements
Age:
Minimum 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
Maximum 35 year of age at time of entrance exam.
Five-year extension (40 years of age maximum) granted for applicants who have service credit verified in one of the 3 qualified Ohio law enforcement pension systems (OP&F, PERS-LE, and/or HPRS)
Citizenship Required: Yes
High School Grad/GED: Required
Valid OHIO Driver's License: Possession of a valid Ohio driver's license at the time of appointment and the ability to maintain insurability under the city's insurance policy.
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Vision: Must have corrected vision in both eyes to 20/20.
College:
Not required, but extra credit given for Bachelors or Associates Degrees.
Academy Certification:
Not required, but preferred. Additional credit given for valid certificate from the Ohio Peace Officer's Basic Training Academy.
Prior Experience:
Not required, but extra credit given for 2 years or more of actual full-time experience as a municipal, state, or federal law enforcement officer.
Necessary Certifications:
Must attend and successfully complete an Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academy selected by the Chief of Police OR currently possess a valid Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academy certificate. Candidates who have a current Police Academy certificate from another state, may be required to re-attend an academy to meet state standards.
Additional Requirements:
Must pass the Cuyahoga Community College Physical Agility Test prior to appointment.

Hiring Process:
Completion of the National Testing Network test with a passing score in all categories

Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:
The following occurrences or incidents in a candidate's background may result in disqualification from the selection process (but are not limited to):
Felony conviction
Any conviction that would otherwise prohibit you from carrying a firearm
Illegal use of controlled substances and/or conviction for controlled substance violation
Poor work history
Poor driving record
Multiple debts which are not being regularly paid off
Other concerns that would be undesirable in a Police Officer given the responsibilities incumbent to that position.
Extra Credit:
In order to receive extra credit, candidates must be able to provide proof (DD214, College Diploma and Transcripts, Academy Certificate). Total credit cap is 12%.
