Job Description

SUMMARY

Develop, direct, and manage the compliant production and post-harvest processing operations of the Cultivation and Processing Facilities. Collaborate with the other department Managers to develop harvest and processing schedules and timelines to ensure quality processed flower meets the company’s high standards for cannabis. Develop and implement compliant and efficient harvesting techniques, protocols and procedures. Perform quality inspections on final finished product and ensure accurate recordkeeping. Provide training, oversight and management to all processing leads and techs. Maintain strict tracking and compliance in coordination with Inventory Control Manager. Participate in the ongoing strategic planning and vision for the company and its cultivation entities. Understand, embrace and embody the mission of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Maintain and create an up-to-date post-harvest schedule and production plan that is used daily to prioritize and guide current batches through the process
  • Coordinates resources to ensure appropriate supplies are available
  • Monitor and develop processes to increase harvest efficiency
  • Establish benchmarks, KPIs and efficiencies for key processes
  • Establish and maintain sanitation practices for staff, equipment and facilities
  • Maintain accurate timesheets, make timesheet edits and enter sick/pto hours as needed for department employees in HR/payroll software 
  • Record and track finished product in accordance with strict regulatory requirements
  • Maintains strict inventory records of all plant materials used and documents production information
  • Completes pre-harvest score cards for management and executive team, ensures he/her performs a walkthrough product evaluation of harvest at least one week in advance.
  • Coordinates with cultivation leads and sanitation team to ensure house/zone is reset on schedule and is ready for the next planting.
  • Oversees the transportation of harvest to the processing/dry/cure area per the processing manager specifications.
  • Oversees the turnaround of the house/zone is executed in a timely fashion
  • Monitor all equipment in coordination with Operations Manager to define and perform maintenance schedule and arrange repairs as necessary.
  • Manage and direct the daily activities of assigned staff and functions including:
    • Ensures harvest team is appropriately staffed; provide necessary training, training manuals, and standard operating procedures.
    • Schedules and supervise the harvest staff based on harvest and turnaround needs.
    • Monitor progress based on established schedules for cultivation production.
    • Ensures work location meets all Local and State regulation requirements and ensures team members are trained on safety precautions.
    • Exercise significant authority and discretion when addressing items that concern the cultivation location, including:
      • Participate in developing and implementing rules, regulations, policies and procedures to advance the company’s mission, vision, goals and objectives.
      • Completes 30-day and annual reviews for staff and is a coaching voice to staff; counsels and follows disciplinary procedures when needed.
      • Recommends hiring, performance, discipline, termination or advancement of employees.

  • Use of independent judgment in regard to product processing/harvesting, keeping quality, projections and goals in mind.
  • Ensures all employees are operating safely and following all company health and safety standards (ex. cord management, tripping hazards, ladder safety, lifting and bending safety, etc.)
  • Help create a proactive and positive environment; a positive attitude and self-motivation to help produce high quality manicured product, while meeting and/or exceeding personal and/or company goals.
  • Ability to communicate, work with, help, guide, challenge and motivate other team members to create a cohesive unit.
  • Employee must be able to identify various problems with any cultivar/product and communicate with direct supervisors as necessary.
  • Must manage their time during work efficiently to meet goals while consistently producing quality product.
  • Employee must be able to follow basic instructions and ability to take constructive criticism from their managers to maintain quality standards and production goals.

JOB SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

(Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Must understand and implement the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company.
  • Advanced cannabis processing experience, including dry, cure, and packaging.
  • Should have a basic understanding of all local and state cannabis laws, rules and regulations; a pursuit to further their understanding and knowledge of the industry and the laws is appreciated and commendable.
  • Fundamental knowledge, as well as the ability to be taught and guided in areas related to office operations.
  • Skill in analyzing issues, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and implementing recommendations in support of goals.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, assigning and coordinating the activities and resources of professional and technical staff.
  • Shows self-motivation/innovation and the ability to work well with all members of their staff and the company, as well as with their direct supervisor.
  • Ability to listen well and communicate effectively various audiences, especially with the direct supervisors and other co-workers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees, upper management, and other departments.

    • Understand and comply with complex statutes, ordinances, and Local and State regulations as they pertain to the industry, personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures.

WORK CONTEXT

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Requires prolonged walking and standing and some bending, reaching, stooping and stretching
  • Grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
  • Close vision at 20 inches or less. Manual dexterity to reach/handle items, works with fingers.
  • Ability to proficiently operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time while maintaining focus.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and balance up to 50 pounds (70 pounds with assistance)
  • Work is generally performed in a fast-paced cannabis cultivation location
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is generally performed inside a climate-controlled processing building and an indoor cultivation facility. May require working within in a walk-in cooler/refrigerator
  • Work is subject to weather conditions, including rain and hot or cold temperatures
  • Involves frequent contact with varied levels of personnel, including vendors, visitors and staff
  • Will require working rotating shifts with varied hours/day, including evenings weekends, holidays, and special events
  • May eventually include working an alternative workweek
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Five or more years of commercial harvesting methods
  • Three or more years of progressive management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural management, manufacturing management or business management ideal
  • Experience working in cannabis, floral, manufacturing, nutraceutical, or pharmaceutical industry highly desirable
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered, including internal experience.
  • At least a minimum of 21 years old and pass a criminal background check
