Job Description

Electrical Engineer

**Onsite in the San Diego Office: 5629 Copley Drive, CA

Firestorm as a company grew out of the simple question: how does a US ally country with a respectively low defense budget deter an aggressor state entity with a vastly larger war chest? We’re building the very answer to that question, something we call “democratized deterrence.” Firestorm is a VC-backed, defense-meets-Silicon Valley technology company developing mission-adaptable aerial vehicles to put the power back into the hands of the operator. We aim to upend the current defense procurement cost paradigm by bringing world-class capabilities to bear at meaningfully lower costs.

About the Role:

As an Electrical Engineer at Firestorm, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and scaling of electrical systems used in our innovative UAV platforms. You will work closely with manufacturing processes and system integrations from the initial prototype stages through to mass production, ensuring quality and reliability throughout the development lifecycle.

About You:

You are a detail-oriented Electrical Engineer with substantial experience in manufacturing processes and system integrations. You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy solving complex technical challenges while maintaining a hands-on approach. Your ability to communicate effectively and document processes will be key to your success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and prototype cable assemblies and wire harness systems, guiding them from concept through to mass production.
  • Develop and document manufacturing processes for electrical systems, adhering to design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve seamless integration of electrical systems with mechanical, aeronautical, and software components.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with electrical engineering-related suppliers to ensure consistent quality and timely delivery of components.
  • Oversee quality control (QC) for electrical components and assist in scaling production by collaborating closely with manufacturing partners.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex electrical systems during integration phases with other vehicle subsystems.
  • Develop and execute test plans, document procedures, and report results to support validation and certification of components and systems.
  • Actively contribute to a dynamic, fast-paced team while working under evolving product requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering, emphasizing manufacturing processes, system integration, and scaling production.
  • Proficiency in RF systems and analog designs is a plus
  • Experience handling high voltage DC power systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret designs/schematics effectively.
  • Hands-on experience with battery-powered products.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Solid hands-on experience in manufacturing environments and supplier management.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc.).
  • Background in Aerospace is a plus.
  • “US Person” status required (US Citizen, US permanent resident).

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Ability to legally work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship from Firestorm.
  • Understanding and adherence to local labor laws and Firestorm employment policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Firestorm is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce. We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, making decisions without regard to race, color, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, national origin, age, veteran status, disability, or any other protected class. We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for career growth.

Salary:  $110,000 to $130,000
