POSITION:

Draftman/CAD Operator

JOB LOCATION:

Confidential in Covington, LA 70433

GENERAL SUMMARY

CAD Operator position with general knowledge in various Marine disciplines including Structures, Electrical, Mechanical, Outfitting (insulation, joiner, furniture, deck covering/flooring, equipment foundations and arrangements). Proficient with AutoCAD™ versions 15 and newer, 2-D and 3-D modeling, NAVISTM, and MS OfficeTM products. Experience with developing architectural drawings for various types of commercial projects will also be considered.

DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and seamlessly adapt to frequent reassignments. Position may require performing multiple job tasks daily.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision oversight.
  • Review completed construction drawings for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with Company Drafting Standards, and Construction documents requirements (specifications and contract drawings).
  • Design and creation of Master CAD 2-D models used to develop drawings for procurement and installation of materials and components.
  • Develop accurate drawings in AutoCADTM using commercial and/or military standards, vessel construction specifications, contract drawings, NAVIS models, bids and proposals.
  • Develop drawings and documentation to support marketing initiatives.
  • Maintain drawing(s) revisions history logs.
  • Follow Company established processes and procedures for filing and maintaining documents in the Engineering server(s).
  • Prepare weekly status reports using MS OfficeTM products.
  • Check and redline drawings created by others as part of the deliverables check cycle.
  • Maintain, support, and operate department’s equipment (plotters, printers, fax, scanners, etc.)
  • Meet deadlines as directed.
  • Conduct product(s) research.
  • Develop simplified weight reports.
  • Maintain accuracy and thoroughness.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma. Secondary and/or Technical/Vocational school education in Computer Aid Design is desired.
  • Minimum of five years of increasing drafting responsibilities in an Engineering firm, Architectural firm, or Shipyard along with related construction experience is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of PC application software such as AutoCADTM 2015 or newer versions, MS OfficeTM products, Adobe AcrobatTM, NAVISTM, and RHINOTM. Knowledge of AutoCADTM Architecture is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14 and Naval Engineering drafting standards, practices, and methods preferred.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms with Company and client’s personnel.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, collect data, and draw conclusions based on experience, research, facts, and input from peers.
  • This position requires periodic random drug testing, background checks and a valid Driver’s License.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal working hours, in an office environment setting, are from 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday thru Friday. Overtime and weekend work may be required in some cases to fulfill the duties of the job. Use of PPE is required when visiting job sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform his/her duties.

  • Conduct ship surveys and inspections during and after construction in all areas of a vessel, including machinery spaces. Vessel may be under construction at a shipyard, dock-sided, or offshore.
  • Ascend and descend inclined and vertical stairs.
  • Transit on walk-through gangways.
  • Weight lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Vehicle driving.
