Job Description
Job Summary (List Format) Data Engineer (Virginia Department of Elections)
- Collaborate with an existing software development team in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Design and deliver secure, scalable, and traceable data pipelines in Azure.
- Integrate and transform sensitive, public-facing datasets to support reporting, analytics, and transparency initiatives.
- Develop ingestion workflows and transformation logic using Azure-native tools.
- Ensure high standards of data quality, auditability, and compliance with responsible data use practices.
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines leveraging Azure Data Factory, Dataflows, Synapse Pipelines, and similar tools.
- Utilize SQL, Python, or PySpark for data transformation and cleansing workflows.
- Work with Delta Lake, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, JSON, and Parquet data formats.
- Create modular, reusable pipeline components with robust error handling and metadata-driven design.
- Apply data masking, PII handling, and encryption techniques for sensitive data protection.
- Implement data quality frameworks, including automated validation, logging, and reconciliation methods.
- Support data publishing for regulatory, oversight, and open data initiatives, especially those related to government transparency.
- Apply DevOps/DataOps best practices, including versioning, testing, and CI/CD for data pipelines.
- Preferred: Hold relevant certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) or Azure Solutions Architect.
- Must reside within the US for the duration of the assignment and be able to pick up equipment on-site in Richmond, VA.
