Assistant/Associate Professor of Game Studio - Interdisciplinary Development & Project Management

The Game Studio at Champlain College seeks a versatile educator with interdisciplinary expertise in game development and project management to teach in our nationally-ranked program. This unique position will primarily focus on teaching interdisciplinary Game Studio production courses where students from seven disciplines (Game Art, Game Business and Publishing, Game Design, Game Production Management, Game Programming, Game Sound Design, and Interactive Narrative) collaborate to develop playable prototypes.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration in Game Development

  • Facilitate collaboration between the seven Game Studio disciplines to integrate technical, creative and production best practices to build a cohesive, interdisciplinary learning experience.
  • Guide students in effective team communication, problem-solving, and project workflows to simulate real-world game development environments.


Curriculum Development and Industry-Aligned Instruction

  • Design and refine courses that blend project management principles with hands-on game development, ensuring alignment with industry trends and best practices.
  • Develop a curriculum that supports player-focused design, accessibility, and the evolution of the game industry across platforms and genres.


Fostering an Inclusive and Collaborative Learning Environment

  • Encourage teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration to simulate professional game development settings.
  • Actively contribute to Champlain College's inclusive culture through mentorship, faculty collaboration, and community engagement.


Industry Engagement and Professional Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with game studios, publishers, and industry professionals to enhance student opportunities for internships and career development.
  • Stay engaged with industry advancements through professional development, conferences, and outreach, bringing insights back into the classroom.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of professional experience in the game industry.
  • Proven expertise in game development pipelines; technical and creative.
  • Strong foundation in game production processes; best practices and current trends.
  • Experience in shipping a game title(s) from concept phase to ship.
  • Demonstrated skill in documentation and project management / communication tools including the Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence, Trello, Bitbucket, Fisheye, etc.).
  • Understanding of the history of the game industry and its evolution across various platforms and genres - bonus points if you have studied some aspect of the industry beyond your time in it!
  • Demonstrated ability to teach or mentor Game Production Management theory and principles including project management methodologies and frameworks (Agile, Scrum, Kanban), team leadership, product management, and related topics.
  • Bonus points if you also know how to apply these skills outside the game industry into the realm of simulation or other applications.
  • A mindset towards inclusivity and accessibility in a classroom and/or a workspace. Ability to work with students who may have learning accommodations.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in the game industry as a Producer, Project Manager, Product Owner, or equivalent. Experience in higher education teaching.
  • Some experience teaching game industry history and/or critical analysis of interactive media.
  • Expertise in player-focused design principles and behavioral analysis.
  • Experience in fostering positive team leadership and curriculum development.
